Swimming in the surf just off Emerald Isle's beaches is not something that most people do.
I actually did some surf swimming in my earlier days even in as remote a spot as Ocracoke Island when I camped there in the summer of 1969.
I had been stopping by the pool in college and doing a mile swim whenever I got a chance so I thought I was a pretty good swimmer.
It did not take a lot of swimming in the Ocracoke surf to learn that it was far different than swimming in a calm pool in Cambridge, Mass.
I still swim whenever possible but I confine it to pools where I feel that I am on my home turf.
Lots of people buy homes each year. It is not unusual for people to have enough confidence in their own capabilities to deal directly with a builder.
Even more people assume that buying a home on the coast is no different than buying a home in Northern Virginia.
They should talk to my friend who now has a NC home without gutters. He declined any help from me. We guys are notorious for over-estimating our abilities even when the advice is free.
Real estate and homes are exceptionally local. Buying one without the help of a local expert is asking for trouble. If you aren't a local expert, find one before you buy a vacation home.
You might think about using one whose job depends on doing a great job for you. You might even consider someone who will sign a contract with you guaranteeing the level of service which you will receive.
I will be writing more about this in coming days.
