It is hard to believe that the day before Thanksgiving I washed three cars and my pickup truck.
I was wearing shorts, and the weather was almost perfect for car washing in Roanoke, Va. in the afternoon, late in November 2007.
The chill down started Thanksgiving day with temperatures dropping from the morning highs.
When we went on our after feast hike, we actually had to put on some coats. That evening we listened to the winds blowing around the house and bringing in some cool air.
Still we did not see the really cold temperatures until this morning. Based on the slight chance for some winter weather on Sunday, the Carolina coast and its ice free environment is looking like a good destination.
We have had an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving. It has been a time of being together, and remembering what it means to be a family.
When you have a perfect holiday, you look forward to the next one.
The holiday season is a great time to recharge your batteries with the love, care, and support from your family.
While we miss some departed family members, the memory of our times with them is very much a part of the holiday season.
Often it is a small thing that reminds us them, but that does not mean the memory is small or that our love has diminished.
In fact the holidays make those memories burn even brighter.
This cold weather reminds me of my mother and how she would always use the first cold days of winter to make peanut brittle.
That is not a bad memory to have going into the season of memories, both old and newly created.
There is more about the cold weather at my Carteret County Blog.
