Somehow this picture of the somber rainy morning we had last Sunday is about as close as I can get for a visual element.
I have been worked on the Va. Tech campus off and on since 1988 so I am just as shocked as many others in this area who have close ties to the campus.
Yesterday morning I was actually talking by instant messenger with someone I have worked with at VT when she became first aware of the unfolding events. I tried to go to VT homepage as thousands of others did. Strangely I was also talking with someone in Washington when the 9/11 events were first reported.
The horror was brought even closer to home when I learned from my wife that one of the students whom I watched be interviewed on NBC National News was the wounded intern at Cave Spring Veterinary Clinic that she had mentioned earlier in the day.
As is always the case, bad news draws more of crowd than good news. It is hard not to feel that Va. Tech will always be marked with this event.
Yet there is no choice but to go forward, find comfort where comfort can be found and try to rebuild for a better tomorrow with the knowledge that Va. Tech's extended family is behind them 100%.
Yesterday I was surprised as I got a note from a friend in Vancouver asking me if my Va. Tech friends were okay. One of the real estate brokers I work with took the time to call while on the road to ask if my friends and colleagues were okay. I happily found a senior at VT with whom I worked last year online later in the day. Last night a friend from Penn State asked about mutual acquaintances, and I got forward a note from Apple about some communications with Va. Tech.
It is reassuring to know that lots of people care and are wishing the best to an institution and connected people they have come to know as VT family.
We will all be in shock for a while, but there is little to do now but comfort those who have lost loved ones.
A consulting system engineer who is a graduate of Va. Tech and works for Apple forwarded me this link of VT memories.
This is a enormous tragedy. I am so sorry. I am without words.

Thanks for the comment. I was wondering how the weather is down your way?
I am told this may go down as the coldest April in record in Virginia where it has snowed some.
Those are beautiful trees that you have posted on your blog. They remind of the Live Oaks we have at the beach.
