Avahi - http://avahi.org/ is a reimplementation of Bonjour, which originated back when Bonjour was distributed under Apple's "I can't believe it's not open source" license (they've made it properly open source now, but Avahi has become established). It provides a translation layer for applications using the Bonjour API, so CUPS, which Apple bought recently and integrated their Bonjour patch into, will use this. HP puts a fair bit of effort into effort into getting their printers to work under Linux, and your printer is listed as supported at http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/inkjet_aio.html
