Today was a time to finish up the Christmas visits. I headed off to Ronceverte, West Virginia to visit my high school Latin teacher. I always enjoy entering his world of Robert E. Lee, Thomas Jefferson, and British Monarchs.
This trip we figured out that we have both settled on "The Week" as our news magazine. "The Week" provides a wide variety of opinions on specific issues. It's much better than reading one-sided articles.
We also went out to lunch at a very nice small restaurant in Lewisburg. "Food & Friends" is a good place to grab a quick meal among all the shops in Lewisburg. The lunch sandwiches were tasty and the service was very attentive. More information on "Food & Friends" is available at this link.
I was surprised to find that the Lewisburg area had no more snow and ice than the Roanoke area. My former teacher only lives about six miles south of Interstate 64. Unfortunately when I left Ronceverte traffic was backed up all the way from a Walmart just south of the Interstate to Lewisburg. It took me thirty minutes to go the six miles from Ronceverte to Interstate 64. The traffic jam I faced is one I might expect in Northern Virginia, but I was caught off guard by it this afternoon.
Driving back from West Virginia and taking Route 220 from Covington back through Fincastle to Interstate 81 is always a treat. The mountain vistas are gorgeous.
This evening the sky was absolutely beautiful. If the "red sky at night, sailor's delight" rhyme has any truth behind it, we should expect some great weather tomorrow.
