We live in an area of remarkable natural beauty. The shot in this post was taken at Carvin's Cove, the reservoir for Roanoke City. We went over for a quick hike this afternoon. I used to be a regular visitor with my kayak and fishing rods. About four years ago I gave away my kayak since I was having trouble finding time to get it in the water.
Today we enjoyed walking on the trails, but it wasn't the same as silently gliding around on the lake.
Then there was the problem of the nuisance tax that is now in place. It now costs a dollar a day per person to visit the reservoir park. I was used to paying an annual fee for my kayak, but I can't believe that the $1 per day fee even pays for the people doing the collecting.
It's still a beautiful place and well worth the $1 per day. I was surprised how far below normal the water level appeared. I guess the dry fall is starting to show.
