Fresh Market has opened in Roanoke. We're about to see how the laws of economics work. I'm just hoping that there are no casualities in local stores.
However, I'm certainly glad we've got another grocery store choice here.
Their bakery appears to be the best grocery store based bakery around. We had some of their Tilapia tonight. It was very good. I tried their rotisserie chicken, it was also delicious but expensive. The rotisserie chicken at SAMs is a much better value.
We have sampled a number of their side dishes which are also tasty but again a little on the expensive side. It's great to have another option like Fresh Market in town. We've certainly waited long enough for it. We'll be shopping there regularly for special treats and meals.
Fresh Market comes close to having a lot of things I now have to run around to find. I was specially pleased when Glenda found some Marmite on the shelves. Now if I could just get them to stock Icelandic Salmon.
One warning is appropriate. The picture on the left was taken last weekend on Saturday during my first visit to Fresh Market. It didn't take me long to make the decision that there was nothing in the store so special that I would wait in line that long. The lines went well back into the aisles.
If you want shorter lines, check your neighborhood Kroger. We went to ours this afternoon around five thirty, and it was almost deserted compared to the normal pre-dinner rush.
WSLS Television news has just reported that the Fresh Market opening in Roanoke was the second largest in the company's history.
