Yesterday driving home from DC, I was in search of a sunset. There was no particular rush to get home since I knew Glenda, my wife, was having dinner with friends.
As I passed through Harrisonburg, I thought the sun might just be setting as I got to Lexington. However as I passed Staunton, I knew that it would likely be gone by the time I got through the Lexington area. I decided to exit at Raphine and wander over to the Buffalo Springs Herb Farm and see it I could catch the sun disappearing.
The sunset wasn't very spectacular, but I did catch it as it dropped behind their Gardener's Cabin. If you have never visited Buffalo Springs, I encourage you to make the time for a visit. It's only four miles off of Interstate 81. Just take the Raphine exit, and go west on Route 606. There are plenty of events scheduled for the ladies, and the grounds are certainly worth walking. If the Herb Farm isn't enough for the guys in the group, they can always go visit Wade's Mill and enjoy looking at a working 1750s flour mill. Their store also carries some interesting items.
The whole area is one of the most places in Virginia, which is a pretty big statement. I certainly don't regret taking time out of the Interstate 81 truck traffic for a quick drive in the country.
Finally it you are a knitter like some of the ladies in our family, I understand just down the road there is an interesting yarn shop, the Orchardside Yarn Shop.
As fall starts to arrive, I suspect we'll try to visit during one of the events, though it appears this year I have missed their annual Saturday festival where they serve barbecue.
