It all started back on April 25 with "The Spring Tomato Ritual." Today I picked twenty-four tomatoes so I would say that the plants are hitting their stride. The last couple of weeks of heat have really gotten things moving. It seemed like an eternity before we got our first tomato on July 12 this year. They have been slowly coming in until the last few days. Now we can't seem to pick them fast enough.
I am not ready to render an opinion yet on this year's variety, Jetstar. I plan to get into a serious set of tomato sandwich testing in the next few days. It's tough work, but someone has to do it. I'll make sure to take careful notes. I suspect that every tomato sandwich fan has their own recipe. I plan to keep mine recipe secret since the ingredients aren't very complex, and I don't want to stir up a religious war.
It won't be long before we have to figure out what to do with the surplus. At least it's not zucchini.
