Friday we had a late breakfast at our neighborhood Famous Anthony's at Southwest Plaza and then decided to skip lunch so we could have a nice dinner.
The nice dinner turned out to be a meal at the Homeplace in Catawba. The Homeplace provides very reasonably priced food served family style in an old farm house at the foot of Catawba Mountain, surrounded by cattle grazing in lush pastures.
The standard $12 per person charge includes tax, beverage, desert, fried chicken, gravy, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, vegetables, biscuits, and choice of another meat. You can get a third meat for an additional $1 per person. The extra meat choices are country ham or roast beef. On top of all of that, they will keep bringing food until you say uncle.
The Homeplace is only open from Thursday through Sunday. They open at 4 pm except on Sunday when I think they open at noon. We never go on Sundays since the crowds can be very impressive. They can serve an amazing number of people very quickly and on a beautiful day, it is a very pleasant place to wait, but I'm still not very good at waiting. We go for the fried chicken and have yet to be disappointed. With a little practice, it is possible to pace yourself and still have room for the cobbler and ice cream dessert. The Homeplace is just a few miles north of Interstate 81, on Route 311. Here is the Google map.
Definately worth going to. There is more delicious home cooked food that at grandma's on Christmas Day! Don't forget to save room for dessert, the cobbler is fantastic. Be prepared to wait for a seat because they always have a crowd.
