This morning I saw this report in the SJ Mercury News.
The tech giant appears to be taking another step into the movie-making business, reportedly signing up Hollywood studio A24 to expand its presence. The Wall Street Journal said that Apple will work with A24 to produce films under a multiyear partnership — but it is not yet known if any of the movies will be released into theaters, or solely on Apple’s iTunes or Apple Music streaming services.
This should be interesting. With Apple pricing history, expect entry level tickets that let you hear the movie at $20, tickets that actually let you see the movie at $25 and tickets with a seat for $30.
Streaming tickets will come with a 5 minute warranty. Make sure you buy the right tickets the first time because upgrades will be impossible. Any problems after the first five minutes of streaming and you will have to go to the genius bar but no refunds ever. No matter how expensive the movies are and what the reviews are, there will be people in line for 24 hours.
I expect this to fall into the successful category of Apple's Television and the Apple Car which traces back to the Apple flying car.
Obviously, you have to spend the obscenely high margins that the company makes on something besides customer support, why not movies? I still cannot believe the entry level MacMini price has gone from $499 to $799 and remember that is with no keyboard, no mouse and no monitor.
Maybe I should ask Alexa what she thinks about this.
