I would like to believe that progressive companies have made fixed vacation a thing of the past.

I'm a huge fan of Netflix, their product/service and the vision of their CEO, Reed Hastings. Take a look at the culture he's created.

I think proven contributors and managers need about 6 weeks off per year. 1 week per quarter or 2 weeks per six months to recharge the batteries, and 2 weeks of professional development.

If you hire good people, with good subordinates, and train them well, you should have no problems taking six weeks off per year.

Work is what you get done, not where you are or how much time you spend in the office.
