Steamed by the heat
This is the week that the country is slowly cooking. Our morning headlines cried out about high temperature records being set on both coasts.
We are a little lucky in that we are on the coast and being on the water moderates the temperature somewhat.
I saw that Pittsboro, NC hit 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit, but I am guessing that was not an official temperature.
Here in Cape Carteret we have been in the upper eighties with plenty of humidity. I noticed that Roanoke hit 94 today. I am glad I was not there for that.
The one thing the humidity has brought is thunderstorms. We have had a number of them, including one this morning that gave us two inches of rain. It certainly has helped keep everything green here.
I actually went for a swim this morning just before 8 am and the pool was perfect. Thirty minutes after I walked back to the house water was ponding near our bulkhead during our early morning storm.
I understand from our friends who are visiting from Roanoke that things are pretty burnt up there from the drought. Maybe some of these storms will wander by Roanoke.
After the storm we managed to go out on the White Oak River and fish for three hours. Our catch was just enough to keep us fishing, a nice Croaker, some Pinfish, and a Pigfish.
Summer is here, we should be able to bottle this heat and use it next winter.
