Happy Fourth of July- The Flag is Flying

FlagisflyingI did not get it done until this morning, but I finally got the flag mounted and flying.

When we were living in Canada, I missed seeing all the flags on the 4th of July.

In Columbia, Md. where we lived for a couple of years, an organization used to place small flags by each person's mailbox every Fourth of July.

Here near Cape Carteret, which is not far from Camp Lejeune or Cherry Point, there is no shortage of flags.

Last year I wrote a post, The Freedom to be Interdependent.  In 2005 my post was America for Sale.

In spite of everything, I think we will survive.

The road will likely be bumpy, but this group of politicians, Republicans and Democrats will not destroy this country.

We will get government back to taking care of the people's business.  We just have to work at it.  If we do nothing, the same bunch of people with their hands in our pocket while being on the payroll of large corporations will be back on the job.

I am thankful for a place where I can fly the flag with pride.

Beaufortinletflag Yesterday we went over to Beaufort to pick up a nautical chart.  We actually went by car since Beaufort is an hour and one half by boat and only 35 minutes by car.

As we were walking down the boardwalk by Turner's Creek, I snapped this picture of boat docked at Town Creek Marina.

The last time we had gone down Beaufort way, we had gone by boat and enjoyed a trip to Shackleford Banks

That trip I was impressed with the beauty of the coastline when traveling by boat.  While the highways might seem very commercial, the scenery along the coast up the Intracoastal Waterway is some of the prettiest that I have seen.

It made me thankful to be living where I am living.

As a country, we have no shortage of problems, but we also have plenty of bright people who could solve them.

It seems to be clear that right now the current crop of politicians are part of the problem and not part of the solution.

Yet today, I refuse to worry about that.

I am going to be thankful that I live in a country where I have the freedom to move and to fly the flag.

I am also thankful that I do not have to get on Interstate 81 today.

As I wrote yesterday, I am glad the waterways that I am using don't look like the entrance ramp to a Northern Virginia's Toll Road.

I believe there is an opportunity for change and hope that we will see that change sooner rather than later.

One last thing, I should have a ripe tomato by the end of the week.  What more could I ask for?
