The pirate spirit lives on the Crystal Coast
While you cannot see the pirate flag from this picture, you can glimpse it in this link.
There is no piracy around, but there is a spirit of independence on the Crystal Coast.
I like to think that the gathering on the shifting sands of Bogue Inlet is a good indicator of people's willingness to get away from the norm.
Here to many of the natives, going to the beach does not mean getting in a car and driving to one of the public access points, it means getting in your boat and finding your own spot on one of the numerous small sand bars in Bogue Inlet.
I think that is a pretty neat way of going to the beach. There's no hot pavement to cook your feet, and certainly the scenery doesn't get any better.
I posted some more pictures at Enjoying Life on the Coast.
