Dining along side roads, Hursey's Bar-B-Q, Graham, NC

Hurseys_barbqNot far off Interstates 40 & 85 on the stretch just east of Burlington, Route 87 takes off and heads to Pittsboro.

Not far south on 87 on your left is Hursey's home of delicious barbecue and broasted chicken.

I love Hursey's vinegar based barbecue, but I always end up getting the broasted chicken.

Broasted seems to be a mid-western version of Kentucky Fried Chicken.  It's the same idea, pressure frying.

I first discovered broasted chicken on a trip around the country as a teenager over 40 years ago.  My friend Johnny and I ran into a spot serving broasted chicken one night back in the days when fast food wasn't so easy to find.

It seems for most of my adult life broasted chicken has been a little out of reach which is too bad since I like the broasted a little better what you usually find.  Broasted can be a little salty since it is marinated.

Hursey's barbecue is good enough to be on the official Historic Barbecue Trail map.  The first time I saw the map, I was surprised at how many places that I have already visited.

I guess I need to print a copy out and carry it in the car.

If you stop by Hursey's make sure you try their banana pudding.  It is only $1.25, and if it were only served warm it would be perfect.

There is a Washington Post article on broasted chicken and its scarcity , you might need a subscriber ID to get to it or you can go right to the source.

Pigthrough If you don't have time to go in and sit down, you can always use the Pig-up window.
