Blogs, Beaufort, & Beauty
I consider myself blessed in that I can frame a scene nicely and capture it with a camera. Often I can crop the picture a little and sometimes adjust the colors that I get from the camera to match what I have seen with my eyes. That's all it usually takes to produce some very nice images. I'm proud of my photography talent which provides great inspiration for my writing.
With the help of a good digital camera and some tools on my Macintosh, I am confident that the images I produce add a nice visual element to my blogs and to the walls where some end up hanging.
Today I did some work to spruce up the design of my blog which has basically been riding on Typepad's default settings for two and one half years. It was time for a change.
Working with colors and trying to make things look nice isn't something that is second nature to me. Whenever my wife, Glenda, does some redecorating, I usually limit my input to "Yes dear."
I am actually in awe of people with real artistic talent. Recently I met one of those people, Mary Warshaw of Beaufort, NC. Mary is an extremely talented artist. She is also the author of the Beaufort, NC-The Town and Why It's Unique. It is one of the most visually stunning blogs that I have ever seen. Mary is a relative newcomer to computers, but as you can tell from her blog, she is doing quite well.
To really appreciate Mary's talent, you have to check out her artwork like the "I’m Home—Beaufort Waterfront and the Meka II" print which shows her personal view of the Beaufort, NC waterfront. I think what Mary has painted is stunning.
Another print of Mary's that I really like is the "Beaufort Porches" print. Both prints can be ordered online.
One thing that Mary and I really agree on is that Beaufort is a wonderful place. Glenda and I first visited Beaufort for our thirtieth anniversary in 2003. We had a wonderful time and stayed at the Cedars by the Sea Bed and Breakfast and had our anniversary dinner at Blue Moon Bistro.
We loved the area so much that we visited several more times and eventually ended up with a second home about thirty five minutes from Beaufort.
If you're looking for a place to take someone for a special occasion where you can park the car, walk to great restaurants, enjoy boat rides, walk along the water and be surrounded by a beautiful historical district, Beaufort, NC is a great choice. It's about a six hour drive from Roanoke. I even did a Beaufort Travel Guide post. You won't regret visiting Beaufort, it's a magical place with some great small shops for the ladies and fantastic fishing for the guys.
If you want to have a look at Mary's "I’m Home—Beaufort Waterfront and the Meka II" print, you can actually view it by visiting Original Frameworks here in Roanoke where my copy of Mary's print is waiting for us to make up our minds on the frame.
