Roanoke escapes with snow flurries

SnowflurriesThis has certainly been a strange winter.  North Carolina just got swiped by their first winter weather.  Roanoke managed to just get a few snow flurries.  Texas and southern California have seen snow.  Even Seattle has had to deal with snow.

Weather prediction tends to be an exercise in futility.  Just ask the folks at Accuweather who issued this prediction on October 18.

Expect midwinter to be colder and stormier than normal in the South and East; warmer and drier over the Northwest into the northern Plains.

Of course winter is far from over so I guess there is plenty of time for some serious weather and for the prediction to come true.  With the ground cooling down and much of the country become snow covered, the chances of seeing some winter precipitation soon are getting better and better.

Of course we have faired very well so far, so there is little room for complaint.  The folks in Maine and Atlantic Canada are really going to get whacked this weekend if the weather forecasters are correct.  It appears that they may be facing a full fledged blizzard.

Now the weather folks in Roanoke are calling for winter weather in the area Sunday and Monday.  I guess winter is really here.
