I got a note from Mike, a student at Virginia Western Community College. He recommended that I try the pizza at "Grace"s Place" near the Grandin Theater. I'm always up for trying a new place so I definitely will be stopping by as my wife's broken ankle has put me in charge of food most nights.
Mike's note starting me thinking about pizza. It turns out what I consider to be the best and most unique pizza that I have ever eaten in this area comes from Mountain View Italian Kitchen in Ironto which is roughly half way between Roanoke and Blacksburg. This Google map will give you an idea of the location.
My favorite pizza is their Sauteed Spinach Pizza with Spinach Cream Sauce topped with Mozzarella. Though the curvy four miles from I81 to the restaurant seems a lot farther the first time, it's well worth the drive. Sometimes it can be crowded but often it's only pleasantly busy. They are only open Wednesdays through Sundays, and then they are only open in the evenings on Wed., Thurs., and Friday.
Mountain View's website has complete directions, a menu for entrees and all the pizzas among other tasty things. So today with pizza on my mind while on the way home from work in Blacksburg, I decided to detour for a Sauteed Spinach Pizza. I called their number, 540 268-2512. It has programmed into at least the last three cell phones that I have had. They had my pizza ready when I got there.
Not only is the Sauteed Spinach Pizza delicious, it is also a great value at $13.95 for a large that is 16 inches in diameter.
It was a nice treat for a meal. Now we just need to try Grace's Place down by the Grandin and see how their pizza stacks up.
