Yesterday we got a welcome summer rain. Things were started to get dry and few of the pop-up thunderstorms that seem to form over Bent Mountain and Floyd had made it to our neighborhood recently.
What we got yesterday was a nice general rain based on a system moving up the coast. I'm always thankful for rain in August because it wasn't too many years ago that it seemed like the mountain forests west of us were on fire one fall. We could see and smell the smoke. I can't remember which year but in searching, I found this neat image of smoke from a Quebec fire in 2002 reaching our area.
These rains are a good start to keeping us from getting too dry as we head to fall.
