Warm Winds
Sean over at "A Tech Monk Speaks" had a post yesterday about an exhibition at Va. Tech of the human costs of the war in Iraq. I plan to try to go tomorrow, but if you cannot go, read Sean's post or if you want to be really shaken watch the movie that goes with the exhibit.
I don't think we could get any luckier living here in SW Virginia. Glenda and I were sitting on our deck, Tuesday night enjoying one of those perfect Appalachian evenings with warm winds blowing across the mountain. The sky was a deep dark blue with some beautiful clouds still visible at 10:30 pm. Death and destruction seems so far away from our valley which twinkles with beautiful colors every night.
I took a view shots of downtown Roanoke and the sky but none of them came out to suit me. So I dug back in my shots and found this July 5, 2004 shot of the Valley that made me think of some of those warm breezy mornings that I have enjoyed coffee on the deck. I get the same feeling early in the morning and late at night. At both times the valley seems at peace, but especially in the morning I get the feeling that we have something precious here that lots of people will never know.
I've been really busy lately starting up the new contract that I have signed with the National Lamba Rail which to keep it simple is a dark fiber research network with all optical switches that delivers unbelievable bandwidth. I'll be helping Federal agencies understand that NLR actually exists.
Also we're puppy sitting and that continues to take a fair amount of time. Still I'm not complaining. It's pretty nice to be living somewhere relatively safe these days. Especially considering what happened in London today. We went to see "War of the Worlds" last night. It was a nice break and certainly kept my attention, but I haven't decided if it will be a classic or not. The special effects were impressive but right now I probably won't be adding it to my library of DVDs.
Well the rains are here. I guess we'll see how accurate the forecasts are. My gauges are both empty and I expect they'll be full tomorrow morning.
